In 2013, before podcasts had reached the level of influence they hold today, I demonstrated foresight by organizing a series of one-on-one interviews with mayoral candidates in New Haven. My approach was unique: I invited residents from diverse neighborhoods to conduct the interviews. This resulted in authentic, unscripted conversations. Jahmal Henderson, from the predominantly Black neighborhood of Newhallville, interviewed Justin Elicker (who would later win his second campaign), while Stephen, a neighbor from East Rock, conducted another interview.
These candid discussions allowed voters to see the candidates beyond the polished talking points and political speeches. This initiative not only showcased my ability to leverage emerging technology but also demonstrated my vision as an independent journalist capable of earning the trust of high-profile political figures. It remains one of my proudest achievements, highlighting my commitment to unbiased storytelling and community engagement.
