For this project, our team focused on presenting a compelling case for the renovation of the iconic Claiborne Pell Bridge, which connects Conanicut Island to Aquidneck Island. As a landmark of Rhode Island and a legacy project for WSP following its acquisition of Parsons Brinckerhoff in 2016, the bridge was a centerpiece of our maintenance and modernization proposal.
One innovative idea involved the addition of a walkway beneath the bridge, leading to an elevator. This "Pellivator," as I aptly dubbed it for our presentation, would ascend to the top of the bridge's tower, providing visitors with a breathtaking 400-foot vantage point overlooking the East Passage of Narragansett Bay. The name became a standout feature of our proposal to the client.
I spearheaded the client presentation, contributing to its impact with engaging visuals. One highlight was a dynamic transition between a computer-rendered historic photograph of the Pell Bridge and a rendering showcasing the proposed observation deck, effectively blending the bridge's storied past with its envisioned future.
