Teaching Groups How To Design Their Own Systems
Step One. Determine the amount of light that will hit your roof
cumulatively annually. Get to know a Sun Chart, and learn about
the national averages of irradiance, provided by NREL.
Step Two. Determine the angle that you can position
the panels, in terms of degrees of the angle of the roof and orientation
of roof to South-facing.
Step Three. Acquire a determination of the number
of actual modules you can fit, using a ruling law. At this point,
select the type of modules to establish footage squared as well
as your wattage rating of panel, to determine annual kilowattage.
Establish the maximum and minimum number of modules legally allowed
in series, using the temperature / voltage coefficient provided
in the NEC.
Step Four. Determine an inverter, based on the
ratings of your PV Array.
Step Five. Use the plans that you have established
with your licensed installer / system designer, approach various
installation companies with a bid for the contract to build the
system that you have designed.
If you don't grasp everything 100%, that's perfectly

Do not let private companies design your system
for you. Make sure you do as much of your own homework as possible.
Because you wouldn't let some guy put a time flux capacitor in
your car just because there was a government rebate and you knew
what it could do. A private system designer is unbiased in approaching
the situation, will not fudge numbers, and dictates to the installer
what you expect from them.
