Construction News:
Massive Dirt Project
So much dirt... But why?

Along York Street, where much construction has continued throughout the summer, there has been one sight that has provoked much speculation.

For several weeks, and hours a day, a conveyor belt kicks out dirt into dump trucks which line up and await to be filled.

The reason is this: Yale University college residences are designed like
(see also: town news july 2005_) castles. These "castles" are constructed with occupancies in the perimeter, and courtyards in the middle.

The dirt, according to reports from construction workers, is being removed from the courtyard to allow for the construction of a new building to be located under the ground. It's unclear at this time, the number of floors that the building will contain. But one thing is fer sure: that's a whole lot of dirt they're digging in there.

Another source indicated that an underground tunnel would be constructed underneath Elm Street for safe passage from one side of the street to another, but that the tunnel would only be accessible for students and faculty of the college. Stay tuned for more news from York and Broadway.
