i
compare making music on reason quite similar to playing a game of sim city,
or perhaps civilization 2, another favorite computer game of mine. you start
out with nothing, on which you are to build something that is automated in such
a way that it takes on a life of its own. I usually start by building blocks
of percussion; in that the song will be divided. unless i'm using a sample with
RX module, not explained here. those i don't always implement, but whenever
i do, it's usually what comes first. occasionally i will start a song with a
piano or symphony. it seems that whatever i begin with tends to become the centerpiece
of the song upon completion, and the rest is there to either emphasize of occasionally
counterbalance it.
