Heat Wave.

It's been hot out there. Find out a good spot to cool off, and tell time, simultaneously.

The heat in recent weeks has been tremendous, reaching in the upper nineties several days in the week. the afternoons have been bringing thunderstorms on occasion. The other day, the thunderstorm also brought a certain degree of wind, blowing down an entire wall of blue fence, enclosing one of new haven's many construction projects.

One really cool place to go is the Edgewood Park sundial. It's a waterpark, not unlike Six Flags (but probably lacking a flag or two), but it's also a sundial. The long piece extending upwards works with the sun, in casting shadows into differently marked locations, thus determining semi-accurately the time of day.

This doesn't work at night, and often the water is turned off after sunset, as well.

This guy actually likes the heat. He was performing at a freak show at the local concert venue downtown. He swallowed swords, and fire-engulfed swords, then he swallowed fire. It seemed that there was nothing that he'd not be likely to attempt igniting or ingesting.
