In 2012, I was approached by the DJ at the local record store Cutlers, whom I had known since I was a teenager. He was the guy who would recommend and sell me my records on Broadway in New Haven throughout high school and we had never really interacted outside of the store, but I saw him walking down the street after Cutlers had closed, and he recommended that I meed his friend Jahmal Henderson to collaborate on a video project.
What ended up happening was actually kind of special. We recorded five total episodes and a music video (Money in your Shoe) together over the course of about a year. We interviewed friends, we recorded conversations, and we ended each episode with a freestyle by Jahmal, who also went by the name "Boo Slick." At one point, I even made it possible for Jahmal to sit down with future mayor of New Haven Justin Elicker in a race for mayor that he lost to incumbent Toni Harp in 2013.
This might seem very different from the engineering corporate work that I've done, but it shows my steadfast interest in giving a voice to my friends and providing the same level of professionalism to them with their endeavors. I learned a lot in the process and regard this as one of my better creative efforts.
